CIRO PALUMBO
CIRO PALUMBO
Born in Zurich in 1965, his artistic journey begins with the poetics of the Metaphysical School of Giorgio de Chirico and Alberto Savinio, reinventing its foundations through a wholly original personal interpretation. His research proceeds through moments of contemplation and metaphysical silences, contrasted with nocturnal and intimately troubled expressiveness, where one can clearly sense the detachment from the silent immobility that inhabits the canvases of the Pictor Optimus. His works thus present themselves as stages where the objects present are bearers of dreamlike symbolism. Ciro Palumbo is not only a painter, but also a poet who reflects, acts, and composes to combine metaphors on the elusiveness of time and the immeasurability of space, thus demonstrating his ability to deepen his observation not so much of nature as of the imaginative impressions that come from memory. A curious researcher and scholar, he has also been working for several years on the theme of myth, interpreting classical mythology with an exquisitely modern twist, offering a deeply cultured and evocative interpretation. The artist thus succeeds in sublimating and contextualizing ancient myths in timeless spaces, demonstrating their contemporaneity. His training as a graphic designer led him to work for years as an art director in advertising agencies in Turin. It was during this journey that he discovered and expanded his visual and compositional skills. Subsequently, experience in a modern art studio and his acquaintance with several contemporary masters led him to deepen his knowledge of oil painting with glazing. In recent years, the artist has also successfully dedicated himself to sculpture, lending three-dimensionality, through terracotta, to the topos of his poetics. Palumbo began exhibiting in 1994 and has held around one hundred solo shows throughout Italy. In 2011, he participated in the Piedmont Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale. In recent years, several important venues have hosted his works, including the Stadium of Domitian in Rome with the exhibition "The Strength of Gods and Heroes" and the multi-artistic event "Homo Viator. The Visionary Poet," the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence with the exhibition "Renaissance. Painting, a Secret Not Yet Revealed," the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna in Perugia with the exhibition "Renaissance. An Awakening for the Soul," the Bourbon Prison of the Aragonese Castle of Ischia with the exhibition "Palumbo - Fellini. Surreal Imagery between Painting and Cinema," the Palazzo della Cultura in Catania with the exhibition "Migrant Islands," the Colonnade Hall of the Palazzo della Città in Bari with the exhibition "The Flight of the Visionary Poet," the MAUTO National Automobile Museum in Turin, and the Castle of Charles V in Monopoli with the exhibition "Eternal Views Between Earth and Sky," and the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera (Pisa) with the exhibition "Homo Viator." International exhibitions include his participation at Artexpo in New York, Context Art Miami, and solo shows in Providence, USA, and Bellinzona, Switzerland. Some of Palumbo's works are included in the collection of the "Fondazione Credito Bergamasco," at the "Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna G. Sciortino" in Monreale (Palermo), at the MACIST Museum in Biella, and at the Palazzo della Cultura and MACS in Catania. His artistic production has been written about by Angelo Crespi, Alberto Agazzani, Flaminio Gualdoni, Alessandra Redaelli, Aldo Nove, Ivan Quaroni, Luca Nannipieri, Roberto Capitanio, Angelo Mistrangelo, Tommaso Paloscia, Alessandra Frosini, Alberto D'Atanasio, Stefania Bison, Francesca Bogliolo, Paolo Levi, and Vittorio Sgarbi. His works have been published in major yearbooks and trade magazines, and some paintings are held in institutional and private collections in Italy and abroad. He currently lives and works in Turin.
